steel beam and sisters

we rented a genie lift which helped us place a 10 inch by 18 foot steel beam; this is the new garage door header. most of the existing 2x studs were sistered in the bottom level through the end of the week. this is being done to level the house, which as previously mentioned was 4-1/2 inches out of level. we also laid out the new walls on the main level, and placed another parallam beam above the new lift-and-slide door in the downstairs guest bedroom.

leveling and temping

a bench mark was established and a zero point located at the north west corner of the house. the opposite end of the house was found to be almost 4-1/2 inches out of level. beams and header plates were lifted with a bottle jack, and temporary shoring was put into place to achieve levelness through the house. on friday, two 13 foot parallam beams were installed to reinforce the existing structure, so as to actualize the new spaces downstairs. overall, another big week.
