another thursday

this isn't sheet rock; it's button board, which as a plaster finish applied to it. the plaster was a nice material [unfortunately finished smooth, blandly resembling a drywall texture], and was troweled with quality in craft. most [all] has to come off as interior walls are being removed in favor of a large, open floor space. we also pulled some door frames made with nice, clear pine 1-3/4" jambs. these were so well constructed and tightly fitting we couldn't save the jamb [i am holding on to a couple of these pine boards to build something later].

early demo

on monday [1.26.09] kelly the electrician came to the house and cut all the power to the house, and installed a new 200 amp panel. truly exciting stuff. pete and i did a little demo work on tuesday and wednesday. tom the plumber also came on wednesday to cap all the water and gas to the house [no photo].

some photographs

these are some photos i shot with my canon point-and-shoot, at the building site and around point loma over the past few weeks. the skyline and the variety of light tones that are produced are uniquely amazing to this site and san diego. additionally, it is a great reminder that flowers bloom in the winter season.

on a thursday

today consisted mostly of talking with people. met with the engineer this morning. came up with a new concrete detail regarding a grade beam that links the five eighteen foot caissons for the new deck foundation. talked with the owner a lot regarding other structural issues/details/unknowns, trying to figure things out. then talked with a demo contractor and coordinating with a framer; terrific.

did these renders for fun showing kitchen from entry and entry from kitchen. then two aerials; one of the kitchen/island and one of the desk space. these are just ideas, and will evolve. that green stuff is suppose to be a stained concrete [i'm working on the visualization]. know any good books/sites regarding concrete countertops? let me know...please.

the view is money

this is the view from the deck; looking out from the site over san diego harbor [where america's cup sailboat racing is held], and to san diego downtown skyline. the cityscape at night is where it's at. million dollar views.

a beginning

i wanted to record progress of this house that i am helping project manage/coordinate/design/build, so i just thought i'd blog it out. probably not that interesting...but i guess it begins here. here are a couple renders; living space and bedroom.
